A LOT of changes will be coming! It is 1960—I felt life is not changing much and I am getting stuck. But then friends of my mother's and, as it happens another friend of hers, calls and tells her that a friend of hers who works for the United Nations in New York is in Vienna and is looking for a young lady to work at the U.N.
We had no phone at home in Vienna so I had given Etta's mother a phone number from the pastor's family who lived above us. I don't remember when she called but it must have been a few days later and told me that her daughter in New York will start the visa application for me.
